Peek Inside Sustainable Butcher Shop Darke Pines

Downtown’s first sustainable butcher shop is officially open for business.

Located at 332 Second Street, Darke Pines soft opened last Saturday becoming the first local shop to specialize in hormone-free and pasture-raised beef, pork, lamb, and poultry.

Darke Pines is the complete opposite of the old-school, saw dust covered butcher shops. The minimalist, boutique-like shop is elegant, clean, and befitting of a purveyor of ethically raised meats. Though it’s very spacious and open, the shop still provides an intimate, inviting feel thanks to the friendliness of the owners, Erica and Will Messmer.

With access to a full kitchen (this was The Citizen afterall), Darke Pines will in the future offer some prepared foods/sandwiches. The Messmers will also host classes and tastings at the shop educating shoppers on the different cuts of meat, how to break down meat/poultry, and the best ways to prepare certain cuts.

The shop is open Tuesdays through Fridays from 12pm to 8pm and 11:30am to 7pm on Saturdays.
