New York’s Kings of Kobe has opened its first burger shop in Jersey City. Located inside Newport Mall (in the former Zinbuger space), Kings of Kobe specializes in American wagyu beef.

Wagyu is a Japanese cattle breed known for its marbling. The beef is produced in small quantities and closely governed by Japanese guidelines. Due to the genetics of the cows and the strict cultivation process, Wagyu beef contains a higher percentage of fatty acids than ordinary beef, which gives it a higher marbling score.

Kings of Kobe uses wagyu as its base for all of its hamburgers. Signature burgers at Kings of Kobe include the King’s Standard, which is served with roasted tomatoes, white cheddar, dill pickles, and cherry pepper mayo. Meanwhile, the Louie XIII is served with mozzarella, sauteed cremini mushrooms, truffle oil, sunny-side up egg, and roasted garlic mayo. (Burgers are served as half pound or full pound).

Non-burger options include wagyu hotdogs, chicken sandwiches, salmon burgers, and a plant-based Beyond burger. There are also wagyu steaks, milkshakes, and salads. (You can check out the full Jersey City menu online).

Kings of Kobe is located at 30 Mall Drive West. They’re open Wednesdays through Sundays from 4pm to 9pm. Hours could change, so we recommend giving them a follow on IG.
