For the 6th consecutive year, Jersey City has earned a perfect score from the Human Rights Campaign’s (HRC) annual Municipal Equality Index (PDF), a report that looks at the country’s most LGBTQ-friendly cities.

For its report, the HRC examined 13 cities in New Jersey. Jersey City, Hoboken, and Asbury Park were the only cities in the Garden State to receive perfect scores of 100.

The report looks at cities in five categories including each town’s non-discrimination laws, benefits/protections given to LGBTQ employees, municipal services offered to the LGBTQ community, fair enforcement of the law, and the city’s leadership on LGBTQ equality.

In total, the HRC looks at more than 500 municipalities nationwide, including the 200 biggest cities in the country. Founded in 1980, the HRC was one of the first gay and lesbian political action committees in the country. Today, it’s one of the biggest with over 3 million members.
