FreshDirect same-day delivery is coming to Jersey City. The new service lets shoppers place orders by 9:30am for delivery later that same evening.
FreshDirect announced its new same-day service back in March and has slowly been rolling it out in New York. Over the past few weeks, the online grocer has been reaching out to Jersey City residents as part of a group of beta testers for the new service.
According to FreshDirect, same-day delivery is very limited in Jersey City at the moment, but the way it works is pretty simple. Just place an order by 9:30am and then select how what time you want to receive your order that evening. We tested the service at 8am on a Tuesday morning and saw same-day time slots available for 5pm, 7pm, and 9pm.
Other than the delivery speed, your order is otherwise similar to any other order placed on FreshDirect. Shipping is $6.99 on orders of $30 or more.
By comparison, Amazon Prime Now Jersey City can deliver your Whole Food purchases in as little as 2 hours. (Deliveries come from the Whole Foods Market in Newark. However, a Whole Foods Jersey City storefront is already in the works). The catch with Prime Now is that you must be a Prime member ($119/year) to use the service.
FreshDirect recently expanded to parts of Connecticut as well as the Washington, D.C. metro area.
FreshDirect is just a peachy keen food delivery spot. I live in Jersey City, NJ and tried it for several times. I should say, it is should-to-try service. Thanks.
