Bucket and BayJersey City is losing one of its best dessert spots. Bucket and Bay will permanently close at the end of the month. Owners Jen and Boris Kavlakov have announced they’re moving to Seattle and have made the difficult decision to permanently close the business.

The Hoboken outpost closed over the holiday weekend. The Jersey City shop, located at 150 Bay, will close at the end of the month. However, the Kavlakovs tell us that there will be plenty of surprises and specials throughout the remainder of the month. For instance, right now they’re offering two special pies — a key lime pie and a raspberry chocolate pie.

Bucket and Bay opened in the summer of 2015. The shop has been serving small-batch gelato inspired by the Kavlakov’s travels. Gelato flavors run the gamut from Black Label Vanilla (infused with whiskey) to the recently launched Milk & Cookies flavors. In 2017, the shop’s rose latte gelato was selected to compete in the 2017 Gelato World Tour Challenge.

Late last year, the gelato shop launched its new Pie 66 concept. The pop-up — which is still ongoing — offers home-made pies by the slice, a la mode, or whole. Bucket & Bay has also offered gelato making classes for both adults and kids.

On a personal note, Bucket and Bay was one of the first places I visited upon launching this blog. Immediately, Boris and Jen had me try multiple flavors, sample their nitro brew coffee, and made me feel like I was their top customer. Best wishes to the Kavlakovs and thank you for an amazing 5-year run.
