There’s a wide variety of events happening in Jersey City this weekend. From the return of Surf City to a Sunday morning run to the waterfront — here are the best local events to kick off the weekend.
Thursday Events
What: Sean Kiely & Friends at Fox & Crow
When: Thursday, May 19 from 8pm to 10pm
Where: 594 Palisade Avenue
Local singer/songwriter Sean Kiely will perform at Fox & Crow tonight. Kiely has released several acclaimed recordings under his own name, in addition to being an in-demand guitarist and singer on the local bluegrass scene and producer for other artists. Admission is $10/pp.

Friday Events
What: Surf City Reopens
When: Friday, May 20 from 4pm
Where: 1 Marin Boulevard
Waterfront bar and restaurant Surf City reopens today for its 2022 season. Enjoy lobster rolls, shrimp boils, burgers, and umbrella cocktails while taking in views of the Jersey City waterfront.

What: Movies on the Pier by Exchange Place Alliance
When: Friday, May 20 at sunset
Where: J. Owen Grundy Park
The Exchange Place Alliance is hosting another season of Movies on the Pier. The season kicks off with a free screening of Disney’s Raya & the Last Dragon. The movie starts at sunset (around 7:30pm). What: Mocktails Under the Moonlight
When: Friday, May 20 from 6pm to 8pm
Where: 143 MLK Drive
Mocktails Under the Moonlight is a fundraiser event put on by Plates 4 Parks and the Jersey City Parks Coalition. The outdoor event will have signature mocktails, appetizers, and entertainment. Admission is $35/pp and all proceeds will support the Jersey City Parks Coalition.

What: Zeppelin Hall Maifest
When: through May 22
Where: 88 Liberty View Drive
Maifest is the German celebration of spring and Zeppelin Hall is kicking things off with an added menu of Bavarian dishes and Maibock beers. Maibocks are strong, malty beers that are ideal for the short Bavarian spring.

Saturday Events
What: Smorgasburg Jersey City
When: Saturday, May 21 from 11am to 6pm
Where: Harborside Plaza & Hudson Street (behind Smorgasbar)
Smorgasburg is back at Harborside for another season of eats. The outdoor market will offer food from numerous vendors including Cake Jars, Carlitos Barbecue Taqueria, and more. The market will operate every Saturday. Admission is free and there will be various outdoor dining options throughout Harborside JC.

What: The Jersey Function at Smush Gallery
When: Saturday, May 21 from 2pm to 6pm
Where: 340 Summit Avenue
Smush Gallery is an arts space hosting a mix of events, exhibitions, and workshops. This weekend it’ll host The Jersey Function — a community event putting the spotlight on local black artists and businesses.

What: Jersey City Ballet Presents: Excerpts From Classical Ballets
When: Saturday, May 21 from 7pm to 8:30pm
Where: St. Peter’s University at 2641 John F. Kennedy Blvd
Enjoy an evening of classical ballet performances from Jersey City’s only professional classical ballet company. The night will include works from Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty and the famous ballet Raymonda.

What: Corgi Comedy Club
When: Saturday, May 21 from 9pm to 11pm
Where: 1 Distillery Drive
Head to Corgi Spirits for a night of comedy and cocktails. Jersey City comedians Ryan Rummel and Alex Grubard will showcase stand-up comedians from all over the tri-state area. Admission is $20 per person.

What: Sunday Runs with Four Fitness
When: Sunday, May 22 at 8am
Where: 667 Montgomery Street
Join Jersey City gym Four Fitness every Sunday at 8am for free J.City Sunday runs. The group will run from Four Fitness (667 Montgomery) to Exchange Place. Experiences and newbie runners are equally welcome.

Plant shop Rudo Plants is hosting an ice cream pop-up featuring Milk Sugar Love. Pickup a new plant and enjoy some ice cream at Rudo’s newly opened shop.
