From the launch of brunch service at Lokal Jersey City to a walking tour of the murals of Central Avenue, here’s the best of what’s happening in Jersey City on this first (chilly) weekend of October.

Friday Events

What: PierFest at Exchange Place
When: Friday, October 4 from 6pm to 9pm
Where: J. Owen Grundy Pier
Tonight is the fourth and last PierFest concert of the season. Head to J. Owen Grundy Pier at Exchange Place to hear a free performance by Victor Santos ​Y Ocho Con Clave (6pm) and the Doug Beavers Salsa Orchestra (7:30pm).

What: 29th Annual Jersey City Art & Studio Tour
When: Friday – Sunday
Where: Throughout Jersey City
The Jersey City Art & Studio is a weekend-long event celebrating art in Jersey City. All events are free to attend. They include: West Side Stories Festival at Lincoln Park, Central Avenue Walking/Mural Tour, art exhibition & talk at om.life Wellness, Deep Space Gallery takeover at Plant Base, and more. What: Tribos Peri Peri Grand Opening
When: Friday, October 4 at 3:30pm
Where: 109 Columbus Drive
Tribos Peri Peri has been in soft open mode for a few days now. Today, the BYOB restaurant will celebrate its official grand opening. If you’re not familiar, peri peri is a cuisine based on the African Bird’s-eye chili pepper.

What: Oktoberfest at the Zeppelin Hall Biergarten
When: through October 19
Where: 88 Liberty View Drive
Celebrate Oktoberfest Jersey City style at the Zeppelin Hall Biergarten. The biergarten will launch a new German-inspired menu for the celebration with dishes such as Saurerkraut and Sausage Soup, Schweinebraten (roasted pork), and Schweinshaxe (roasted ham hock). Plus, there will be live German bands playing Thursdays through Saturday nights.

Frutta Bowls

What: Frutta Bowls Grand Opening
When: Saturday, October 5 from 11am to 12pm
Where: 150 Bay Street
Frutta Bowls is celebrating its grand opening with an all-day party at its Newport cafe. There will be music, giveaways, raffles, and activities for kids. The party starts at 10am and the first 25 people to arrive get a free frutta bowl or smoothie.

What: Brunch Debuts at Lokal
When: Saturday & Sunday from 11am to 3pm
Where: 2 Second Street
Take in the fall weather while enjoying a delicious brunch by the waterfront. Lokal Jersey City is debuting brunch service this weekend. Brunch will be available every weekend from 11am to 3pm.

What: Mathews 3-Year Anniversary
When: Saturday, October 5 from 11am to 12pm
Where: 351 Grove Street
Mathews is celebrating 3 years in Jersey City with the debut of a new fall cocktail menu and new dinner entrees. Be sure to make reservations so you can be among the first to taste the new entrees.

What: Shakespeare in the Park: Doctor Faustus
When: Sunday, October 6 at 1pm
Where: Hamilton Park Gazebo
Head to the Hamilton Park Gazebo for a free performance of Marlowe’s Doctor Faustus, as performed by the Hudson Shakespeare Theater Company.
