From the Bolivian Day Parade to an early Pride Party at Talde, here are our top picks for where to eat, drink, and relax on this first weekend of August. Plus, don’t forget — it’s the last weekend of Hudson Restaurant Week.

Friday Events

What: Lobster Fest at Surf City
When: through Sunday, August 18
Where: 1 Marin Boulevard
Surf City is celebrating our favorite crustacean during its 2-week long Lobster Palooza Festival. The waterfront bar will offer 17 different lobster entrees including Lobster Tacos, Lobster Thermidor, Lobster Ramen Soup, and Lobster Paella. There will also be whole lobster specials cooked Creole, Spanish, Mexican, or French style. The lobster party runs through Sunday, August 18.

What: JC Pride Party at Talde
When: Friday, August 2 from 8pm to 2pm
Where: 8 Erie Street
Talde is kicking off the first weekend in August with an early JC Pride Party. Small bites will be served till 11pm at the main bar. Plus, you can expect shot specials, giveaways, and surprise performances. There’s a $5 cover charge to benefit Hudson Pride Center.

Saturday Events

What: Plant Base Market Grand Opening
When: Saturday, August 3 from 8am to 10pm
Where: 370 Pacific Avenue
Plant Base — Jersey City’s first zero waste vegan market — is celebrating its grand opening this Saturday. Head to the Bergen-Lafayette-based shop to pick up your veggies for the week and try out their new vegan food menu. (Make sure to check out their Instagram to see what’ll be available this weekend).

What: The 16th Annual Bolivian Day Parade
When: Saturday, August 3 from 12pm to 7pm
Where: Starts at Brunswick & Columbus and ends at City Hall
The Bolivian Day Parade is one of Jersey City’s most colorful parades (and a personal favorite). The costumes are fabulous, the dancing is contagious, and the entire parade is a celebration showing off Bolivia’s Spanish, Andean, and Native American culture. The parade marches down Columbus and ends at City Hall.

What: Vinyasa & Vino
When: Saturday August 3 from 2pm to 4pm
Where: 54 Coles Street
This Vino Vinyasa class starts off with a vinyasa-based yoga session (led by Tess Weiss) and wraps up with a wine tasting led by local wine expert, Lourdes Arena. Admission is $20/pp. (Made in the form of a NYC Marathon donation to St. Jude’s Hospital).

Bucket & Bay Kids Gelato Class

What: Bucket & Bay Gelato-Making Class for Kids
When: Sunday, August 4 from 11am to 12pm
Where: 150 Bay Street
Drop off the kids at Bucket & Bay for a children only gelato-making workshop. The 1-hour class will have kids (ages 6 to 14) making their own batch of gelato. Tickets are $24 per child.

What: Beatles Tribute Band
When: Sunday, August 4 from 3pm to 7pm
Where: 1 Marin Boulevard
Fans of the Fab Four can catch Beatles tribute band Penny Lane as they perform at Surf City this afternoon. The band will perform major singles as well as favorite Beatles songs/requests.

What: Summer Fest 2019
When: Sunday, August 4 from 6pm to 8pm
Where: 1 Audrey Zapp Drive
The Summerfest Concert Series is a free event that takes place every Sunday and Tuesday evening at Liberty State Park. This Sunday, Spirit of Life Ensemble will take the stage playing jazz, Afro Cuban, and Brazilian beats.
