Newport Centre MallNew Jersey malls — like Jersey City’s Newport Centre Mall — have reopened. However, strict guidelines are in place and shoppers must practice social distancing at all times.

In addition, stores are limited to 50% capacity and both shoppers and employees must wear face masks. Food courts, common areas, movie theaters, and arcades must remain closed. Mall operators must also limit congestion by providing entrance-only and exit-only points. Sanitation materials must also be provided to employees and customers at entrances.

“Malls are part of New Jersey culture and lore, I think as much here if not more so than any other American state,” said Murphy at last week’s press briefing. “We want these businesses to get back up and running responsibly and safely. And we ask everyone who wishes to head out to the mall to comply with the requirements in place, keep your distance, wear a face covering and follow pedestrian directions.”

Here in Jersey City, Newport Centre Mall is open daily from 11am to 7pm. Sundays they will open from 12pm to 6pm.

NJ mall guidelines

  • Common areas and food courts must remain closed

Mall-based restaurants

There are many malls with restaurants that are not part of the mall’s food court. These mall-based restaurants can offer takeout and outdoor dining if they have the space. Here in Jersey City, Chick-fil-a, Panda Express, Popeyes, The Cheesecake Factory, and The Little Beet are providing curbside pickup. Other restaurants are letting you order online.
