Multiple Hoboken Bars Suspended from Saturday’s LepreCon Crawl

Those looking to celebrate LepreCon in Hoboken this coming Saturday are in for a big surprise.

City officials announced they’re suspending five popular bars from this weekend’s pub crawl. The bars banned from participating include Hoboken Bar and Grill, Green Rock Tap and Grill, Mill’s Tavern, The Shannon, and 1 Republik.

All of the bars are facing 2- to 30-day suspensions and in an unprecedented move, the city is also forcing 1 Republik to close for 30 days (beginning May 21) and then close permanently after transferring its liquor license to new ownership.

The stiff suspensions are a result of the bars allegedly failing to “adequately control their patrons and the activities within their premises, leading to severe public safety issues,” said Hoboken Mayor, Ravi Bhalla, in a written statement.

City officials will send additional police to monitor events at this weekend’s LepreCon.

The penalties are as follows:

  • 1 Republik: Closed on March 3 and must close on May 21 for a 30-day suspension. After the 30-day suspension, the establishment shall permanently close pending transfer/sale of the license to new ownership.
  • Hoboken Bar and Grill: 30-day suspension to begin immediately (February 23, 2018).
  • Green Rock Tap and Grill: 20-day suspension, one day of which is March 3, 2018.
  • Mill’s Tavern: 24-day suspension which includes being closed March 3, 2018.
  • The Shannon: 2-day suspension to be served March 3 and March 4, 2018.
