Jersey City COVID-19 Cases Hit 85, City Council to Hold Virtual Meeting

Numbers are expected to increase with more testing

What you need to know for Wednesday morning:

1: “Jersey City’s total number of COVID-19 patients is now 85 and we expect this number to increase significantly as we have more testing sites set up in Hudson County,” said Mayor Steven Fulop in an e-mail blast received by Hudson County View. —Hudson County View

2: The Jersey City Municipal Council will hold its first virtual meeting today (March 25th) at 6pm. The city will use Microsoft Teams software, which allows for up to 10,000 people to join. The platform will have a chat function and real-time call in system. You can also e-mail JCVCM@jcnj.org with your name and phone number to be considered for public speaking. 3: New Jersey currently has 3,675 (up from 2,844) positive COVID-19 cases with 44 deaths (up from 27) total. The counties with the most positive cases are:

  • Bergen County: 701 (up from 609)
  • Essex: 342 (up from 273)
  • Monmouth: 288 (up from 238)
  • Middlesex: 277(up from 210)
  • Union: 246 (up from 189)
  • Hudson: 234 (up from 190)

4: Jersey City Councilman-at-Large Rolando Lavarro suspects he has COVID-19. Lavarro is at Jersey City Medical awaiting the results from a coronavirus test he recently took. —Hudson County View

5: Jersey City has expanded its free showers program for the area’s homeless. City officials are also looking to secure three local hotels as temporary housing for chronic homeless in Jersey City to assist them in self-quarantine and also as an isolation setting for those who have tested positive for COVID-19. —Press Release (PDF)
