Heights businesses are fighting more than just the virus

Green Pear HeightsThe pandemic has impacted small businesses throughout the country. However, here in Jersey City, businesses in the Heights feel that they’re fighting more than just the virus.

Green Pear Heights (93 Franklin) owner Isabella Molnar recently told PIX 11 that conditions in her neighborhood are deteriorating and making it harder for restaurants to survive the pandemic. An increase in crime, garbage pile up, and speeding drivers are just some of the obstacles Heights businesses face on a daily basis.

There was a 2-car accident 10 feet from my parklet, said Molnar via e-mail. That was the first time we saw JCPD on our street for the whole month of August.

Mario Gonzales, owner of neighboring Salsa Fever On2 Dance Academy (83 Franklin), agrees that city officials aren’t doing enough to support Heights businesses.

“We don’t get that white glove service that downtown Jersey City gets and I’m not hating, whatever works, but it would be nice if they could spend a little bit more time focusing a little bit more in the Heights,” Gonzales told PIX 11.

Ward D Councilman Yousef Saleh is actively working with Molnar. However, Molnar explains Heights businesses need more help.
