Cocoa Bakery in Jersey City Heights

Jersey City Heights residents have a new spot to satisfy their sweet tooth. After what felt like an epic wait, Cocoa Bakery is now open in the Heights.

Located at 475 Central Avenue (on the corner of Congress and Central), the new cookie and cupcake haven is currently in soft open mode. (They open as early as 7am on weekdays, though their hours may change in the first few weeks).

The new shop is an extension of the downtown bakery and offers many of the same pastries. The list includes cake truffles, cupcakes, cheesecakes, pies, cake slices, and whole cakes.

Morning commuters looking for a quick grab-and-go can choose from a mix of breakfast pastries that includes muffins, scones, croissants, granola, and biscuits. Cocoa Bakery also offers vegan and gluten free cupcakes and cake truffles. (We’re especially fans of their mini apple pie pockets, rice pudding, and their chocolate “Cara Cake.”)

Prices range from about $3 for a breakfast bar to $6 for a slice of pie. The shop also offers a few savory items (quiche) as well as ice cream and sorbet.

Pastry chef and owner Jessica Isaacs first opened Cocoa Bakery at 275 Grand Street in 2013. The former Nobu pastry chef also offers wedding and made-to-order cakes at both locations.
