Jersey City will prioritize vaccinations for teachers this week

Health officials in Jersey City will reserve the city’s COVID-19 vaccines to innoculate Jersey City’s public school teachers and staff this week, said Mayor Steven Fulop. “The city will be allocating 100% of our vaccine allotment during the week of 3/15 for teachers and school support staff,” tweeted Fulop. The city’s goal is to have public schools reopen by April 22. Meanwhile, health officials will use the city’s limited quantity of Johnson & Johnson’s one-dose COVID-19 vaccines for homebound seniors on the the city’s Meals On Wheels program. In an interview with PIX 11, Mayor Fulop also said the city is getting “about 3,000 vaccines a week.” Coronavirus Jersey City cases remain high this month with a 7-day rolling average of about 121 new cases per day.

He also said that around 30,000 Jersey City residents have already been vaccinated. “Through our JC program there have been 12k residents vaccinated and through the county program there has been an additional 12k JC residents that they vaccinated. City reveals design of new police precinct for the Heights

City officials released renderings of the new North District police station that will replace the current precinct in Jersey City Heights. Located at 282 Central Avenue (just off Hutton), the current precinct is over 100 years old and in disrepair. The new precinct will include a parking area for police vehicles, which will help alleviate parking problems in neighboring streets. Per the city’s Facebook post, new district will also include a meeting space for community groups on the ground floor.

  1. How does a home bound senior, not a Meals on Wheels recipient, receive a home visit to be vaccinated with the J&J vaccine?
