Former Cafe Batata space will become vegetarian cafe
After months of silence, we’ve spotted workers at the former Cafe Batata restaurant at 382 Second Street (just off Brunswick). Cafe Batata closed back in March of 2018 and workers at the new space tell us a vegetarian cafe (new owners) is in the works and could open before the end of the month.
Chili’s Newport is closed
Chili’s Newport location (425 Washington Boulevard) is now closed. A sign outside the restaurant thanks patrons for their business and encourages them to visit the Chili’s in Secaucus. Stay tuned to see what opens in that space. (Any guesses or wishes?)
Baking Mama opens in District Kitchen
Hoboken’s Baking Mama has expanded to Jersey City. The bakery just opened a storefront inside District Kitchen. In addition to cupcakes and cakes, Baking Mama sells macarons, cookies, mini cupcakes, and more. Baking Mama had previously been one of the food vendors at Harborside. We first tried Baking Mama’s pastries at Midnight Market and instantly became fans. It’s great to “officially” have them in Jersey City. (Note: The above photo is their old kiosk prior to opening inside District Kitchen).
DomoDomo now hiring for Harborside location
Work on DomoDomo Jersey City is coming along rapidly. The Japanese restaurant will open later this summer and is currently hiring staff.
More tacos, anyone?
What was formerly Grove Corner Sushi Bar will soon be Grove Corner Taco Bar. Signage has been up for a few weeks and an opening is expected later this fall.
