The Weekender is back! Albeit a masked and socially distanced version. We’re rounding up a few events that are happening in Jersey City this weekend in case you’ve been a little stir crazy or have grown tired of talking to your herb garden.

Friday Events

What: 2nd McGinley Square Pedestrian Plaza Pop-Up
When: Friday, July 24 from 12pm to 8pm
Where: Jordan Avenue (from Montgomery to Orchard)
The McGinley Square Pedestrian Plaza is back, albeit with a slight change of address. The McGinley Square SID has organized a second pop-up along Jordan Avenue (between Montgomery and Orchard). The pop-up will occur Friday from noon till 8pm and will focus on Latin American food from Guerrero, Coconut Latin Caribbean Grill, and Rinconcito Copaneco. Plus, Tradewinds II food truck will be there as a special guest.

What: Camp Hamilton at The Hamilton Inn
Where: 708 Jersey Avenue
The Hamilton Inn just opened its new outdoor dining patio — Camp Hamilton. The backyard opens at 4pm with a full food menu and limited drink menu. (Doggos are currently not allowed).

What: Barcade Unlimited Gaming Sessions
When: 1pm to 11pm
Where: 163 Newark Avenue
Barcade is letting you reserve 1-hour unlimited gaming sessions for $10 per person. Only 15 people are allowed indoors per session and masks must be worn at all times. No food or drink will be allowed indoors either. Adults only after 7pm. Check out their IG post for instructions on how to book a 1-hour session.

Saturday Events

What: Brunch at Emma’s
When: Saturday & Sunday from 11am to 2:30pm
Where: 4 PATH Plaza
Chilaquiles, Crab Cake Benny, and Tofu Ranchero are just some of the tasty surprises you’ll find this weekend at Emma’s JSQ. The restaurant is debuting its brunch menu, which you can check out here (PDF).

What: Brunch at Lokal
When: Saturday & Sunday from 12pm to 3:30pm
Where: 2 Second Street
From Belgian waffles to huevos rancheros, waterfront restaurant Lokal will debut its brunch menu this weekend.

What: JC Caribbean American Virtual Carnival
When: Saturday, July 25 from 2pm to 6pm
Where: Zoom/Facebook/Instagram
Carnival time has arrived in Jersey City. However, this year the festival will be virtual with music and performances streamed live on Zoom, Facebook, and Instagram. Saturday’s livestream will celebrate the carnival’s 25-year anniversary.

What: Whiskey Tasting with All Points West Distillery
When: Saturday, July 25 at 6pm
Where: HomeGrown at 150 Bay Street
HomeGrown is a new bar highlighting wines, spirits, and brews made here in the Garden State. The recently opened bar is teaming up with NJ’s All Points West Distillery for a whiskey tasting Saturday night. You’ll sample two whiskeys and get to make/drink two whiskey-based cocktails. Admission is just $20 per person. (HomeGrown is located a few steps down from Departed Soles).

Sunday Events

What: JC Reservoir #3 Reopening
When: Sunday, July 26 from 12pm to 4pm
Where: Jefferson Avenue Gate/entrance
The JC Reservoir #3 reopened last Sunday and will remain open all Sundays from 12pm to 4pm for self-guided recreation. You must wear a mask and practice social distancing. (Fishing and kayaking remain off limits).
