The weather isn’t the only thing warming up this weekend. A new batch of restaurants and bakeries have recently opened — or will open — in Jersey City this weekend. You can eat and support local at the following spots this weekend:

The LoDG (7 Bleecker Street): The Law of Donutgineering and its made-from-scratch donuts return to Jersey City this weekend. The donut shop plans to reopen on Saturday, May 30 with limited service. They will be open from 9am till 4pm, or until they sell out. (Details)

The Kitchen Step (500 Jersey Avenue): From their signature RD burger to their breakfast burrito, The Kitchen Step is now open for takeout and delivery. In addition, the restaurant will be offering to-go cocktails from bar manager Ray Keane. (Details)

La Unica Cafe (454 Central Avenue): The family-owned Heights cafe/bakery reopened last Saturday. They’re open for takeout and delivery via apps like Grubhub, DoorDash, and UberEats. (Website)

El Rey del Sur (115 Bowers): Affordable, delicious Central American eats are back as family-owned El Rey del Sur Jersey City Heights has reopened on Bowers street. The restaurant is open for takeout and delivery. (Grubhub)

JSQ Lounge (50 Journal Square Plaza): JSQ Lounge is open for takeout and delivery. The bar has also relaunched its menu with new apps and entrees. Entrees are available in “date night” size or “family” size. The former feeds 2-to-3 people and comes with your choice of wine, sangria, cocktail for 2, or a 6-pack of beer. New dinner entrees include baby back ribs, brisket, and vegetarian/vegan options. You can check out the menu here. (Details)

The Lutze (3 Second Street): Outdoor bar The Lutze reopens Friday and Saturday from 4pm to 10pm. They will offer to-go drinks and food. Social distancing will be enforced and masks will be required. Next week, the bar will be open Thursday through Sunday from 4pm to 10pm. (Details)

Mathews (351 Grove Street): Neighborhood restaurant Mathews is offering a limited take out menu along with to-go cocktails on Friday from 3pm to 8:30pm. Orders will be made via phone (201-333-1258). A menu should be posted soon. (Details)

Virtual cooking classes for this weekend

Dishin’ With Diaz: Jersey City chef Chris Diaz (formerly of House of Gains) has launched a virtual cooking class for home cooks looking to sharpen their kitchen skills. On the menu for Saturday’s class is BBQ Pulled Pork or BBQ Jackfruit with a watermelon mojito mocktail. The ordering deadline to join this Saturday’s class is Friday at 4pm. (Details)

Battello Date Night Cooking Class: Chef Ryan DePersio of Battello, Fascino, and The Kitchen Step is hosting two date night cooking classes this weekend. The 3-course meals include an app, entree, and dessert. Plus, your package also includes a bottle of wine. You can opt for a 1-hour Zoom class on Saturday or Sunday evening. (Details)
