The Jersey City waterfront is in for a treat. Known for its enormous burgers and killer pork roll sandwiches, The Committed Pig has announced that it will open at 1 Exchange Place. (In the base of the Hyatt House Hotel, which is also home to the Rooftop at Exchange).
The 6,500 square foot restaurant will be the Committed Pig’s biggest location to date. The Manasquan-based restaurant also has locations in Morristown and Summit. Owner Jerry Rotunno and business partner Tony Monteiro were eyeing Hoboken when the Jersey City location opened up, according to NJ.com.
The Committed Pig takes their burgers seriously. “There’s so much that goes into the burger. No one would imagine how psycho we are about it, from the press we use, to how we handle it, to how it’s delivered,” Rotunno told the New York Times back in 2016.
The burgers are a custom blend of hanger steak, brisket, and short rib from Pat LaFrieda. The NYT describes them as “juicy and flavorful.” The Times also liked The Committed Pig’s Burgernut (pictured below), which is essentially a cheeseburger served on a glazed donut. The NYT said it was “surprisingly good, with the burgers’ salty juiciness playing flirtatiously off the doughnut’s sticky sweetness.” (Though you’ll probably want to hit the gym immediately after eating one).
Other menu options at The Committed Pig include a falafel burger, pork roll & cheese, and plenty of grilled cheese options. There are also many breakfast items like pancakes, French toast, challah toast, and strawberry shortcake French toast.
If you’re feeling particularly hungry, The Committed Pig also offers The Twenty Dollar Burger, which consists of pound of chop meat with American cheese, BLT, mayo, ketchup, and mustard on a toasted brioche bun. The burger actually costs $19. In fact, all menu items at The Committed Pig cost under $20. That includes their three entrees, which range from $15 to $18.
The Committed Pig Jersey City Brings Wine and Beer to Exchange Place
The The Committed Pig Jersey City will include a liquor license, which means customers will be able to enjoy wine and beer with their meals. In fact, Rotunno recently made a trip to Napa in the hopes of discovering some wines for the new restaurant.
Although there’s no set date for their opening, NJ.com reports that construction work has already started. The new eatery could open sometime in March 2020.
