Jersey City’s dining scene is about to change dramatically.

Mega restaurant The Ashford is set to open on Monday, December 17 and Jersey City Upfront got an inside look at the new restaurant and its menu.

Five Floors of Restaurant

Located at 145 Newark Avenue, The Ashford is a swanky 17,000 square foot restaurant designed to bring a touch of New York’s Meatpacking district straight to Jersey City.

The space is decked out with chandeliers, leather banquettes, antique mirrors, and murals by local artist Sueworks.

Yet despite its massive size, The Ashford has many cozy areas like The Gallery’s semi-private banquettes and the comfy, plush couches of the 3rd-floor Study.

Ascend further and you’ll find The Ashford’s spacious rooftop, which will be home to the restaurant’s raw bar where diners will be able to enjoy oysters, crab, lobster, and other shellfish al fresco. (Heating lamps will be installed for cold nights).

New American Food with Latin Influences

In terms of food, the five-level restaurant will offer a New American menu courtesy of executive chef Giancarlo Borletti. Born in Peru to Italian parents, Borletti has worked alongside top chefs like Jose Garces and has created a menu that represents the many cultures that make up Jersey City and also reveals the influences of his own heritage.

“The menu is very diverse. It includes Latin, Italian, and Asian influences,” says Borletti. “It’s made for everybody so everyone can identify with it.”

Peruvian flavors will be found in ceviche and Lomo Saltado, alongside a few Asian-Peruvian and Italian dishes, he says.

The menu will also include a variety of burgers, Korean BBQ, Pan Con Chicharrón, and Beer-Cilantro Short Ribs. The Ashford will also offer entrees for vegetarians and a fish of the day for fans of seafood.

Meanwhile, mixologists Alex Ramirez and Luis Narvaez have created a list of artisanal, but approachable signature cocktails for The Ashford’s beverage program. Both have extensive New York experience.

As an added bonus, The Ashford will have late night hours — so anyone seeking a meal at 1am will be able to find it here.

Six26 To Open Later in December

Sister lounge — Six26 — is on schedule to open a few days after the Ashford. For Six26 the concept will be the same, but the menu will consist mainly of appetizers and light finger food.

The LGBTQ-friendly lounge will also have its own rooftop that overlooks Columbus Drive.

  1. May be worth checking out initial reviews on Google and Yelp. Hopefully owners address these concerns. I don’t currently plan to visit again unless I hear/see that changes are happening.
