Tacos Victoria Opens BYOB Restaurant on Monmouth Street

More tacos for downtown Jersey City.

Tacos Victoria is now a brick-and-mortar restaurant. The owners of the famous taco truck have set up shop at 324 1/2 7th Street. (Corner of Monmouth and 7th).

Tacos Victoria (formerly Sol Azteca) offers a wide range of Mexican street food including huaraches, quesadillas, tortas, flautas, chilaquiles, and sopes. It’s an extensive menu with very reasonable prices that don’t top $15.

The restaurant is very bare bones at the moment, but the owners tell us they plan on remodeling it in the coming weeks. (They want the restaurant to have an open kitchen so diners can see how/where their food is prepared).

There are no plans to offer alcoholic drinks, but they did confirm that they’re BYOB. You can also order Jarritos, orchata, tamarind, and a few other Mexican drinks/sodas at the restaurant.

Tacos Victoria has quite a few owners (they’re all family it appears) and half of them are still looking to open at 328 Montgomery. However, it’s not clear if or when that may happen.

In the meantime, Tacos Victoria on Monmouth is open 7 days a week. (Their taco truck will also continue to roam the streets of Jersey City).

Yes, it may seem like we’re drowning in taco spots these days, but we’ve been fans of Tacos Victoria since their Sol Azteca days and their food is consistently reliable.

  1. We take exception to your taco-snobbery considering that there is a SERIOUS dearth of tasty tacos in this town despite the seeming flood of pseudo-mexican joints.

The trendiness of a taqueria is directly and negatively correlated with the quality of its tacos so hopefully these new, simple spots will finally get it right in Jersey City. Maybe we’ll finally get a delicious fish taco (mahi mahi, plz) in this town?!?!

    • I agree that there’s a lack of consistently good taco spots. That said, I do like Taqueria and Tacos Victoria. Los Dos (Paulus Hook) has mahi-mahi tacos. They fall apart easily, but the fish is perfectly grilled.
