Tacoria Jersey City entrance

Tacoria Jersey City is officially open. The New Brusnwick-based, fast-casual eatery soft opened this weekend at 238 First Street. (They’re across the street from Torico’s).

Tacoria’s menu (PDF) offers a mix of tacos, nachos, burritos, burrito boxes, salads, and quesadillas. It’s a DIY approach where you pick the protein you want in your dish. The protein list includes Pollo Tinga (spicy chicken), Chorizo, Al Pastor (pork marinated in spices and pineapple), and Carne Asada (grilled steak), to name a few.

The BYOB eatery also includes an extensive vegan menu. Basically, you can get any item on the menu vegan-style. Vegan proteins include rajas (roasted corn and poblano peppers), fried avocado, and charred Brussels sprouts in a chipotle sauce.

There are also some small bites and drinks that include Mexican street corn, chips with guac, and a menu for kids. All prices are generally under $10 although some proteins will incur an extra charge. For example, a trio of tacos will cost $8.75, but if you add carne asada (+$3) and guac (+$1.50) you’ll wind up paying $13.25.

Tacoria is the latest Mexican eatery to open in Jersey City. (Not to be confused with nearby Taqueria Downtown and Taqueria Catering Co, which have been in Jersey City for quite some time and are owned by the same family). The past few months have seen the launch of Mezcal Kitchen, Los Cuernos, Tacos Victoria, and Los Dos. Meanwhile, nearby Taqueria Mexico City still remains under construction. (We haven’t seen much work inside the space).

Tacoria currently has locations in New Brunswick, Montclair, and Princeton. This is their first location in Hudson County.
