Fourth of July weekend has arrived, but if you were planning on spending it at Liberty State Park — think again.
The New Jersey government shut down early Saturday after Gov. Chris Christie and the State Legislature failed to pass a $34.7 billion budget.
How does that affect you? Well, state-run beaches and parks — such as Liberty State Park — are officially closed until a budget is passed. Gov. Christie declared a state of emergency throughout New Jersey so essential services, like state police, NJ Transit, and hospitals, will remain operable. A special session of the Legislature has been set for 11am on Saturday.
The state government has shut down only once back in 2006.
Meanwhile, Mayor Fulop tweeted that with our without Liberty State Park — Jersey City will have a 4th of July party. Our backup is ::drumroll:: Exchange Place.
shut down or no govt shut down in NJ, the #JerseyCity 4th or July fireworks/Kool+gang will go on. Just as big we have back up plans in place

Since Christie is one of Trump’s lackeys, I’m not surprised.
