Mark your calendars. Saturday, May 5 is the 15th Annual Riker Danzig Newport 10K.

The USATF-certified course, which starts at Newport Town Square, takes runners through Newport, Soho West, Hamilton Park, Harsimus Cove, Van Vorst Park, Paulus Hook, and the waterfront before ending at Newport Town Square. (This will be my third Newport 10K and I can say it’s one of my favorite races. Smooth, scenic, and well organized).

Elite runners will have the chance to win nearly $16,000 in prize money. The rest of us can enjoy post-race festivities from NJ Beer Company, which will be serving complimentary brews at Newport restaurant Komegashi Too.

Last year, there were just over 1,500 runners and first place went to Craig Lutz of Flagstaff, Arizona, who finished the course in 29:46:21.

The race will benefit not-for-profit hospital and regional trauma center, RWJ Barnabas Health Jersey City Medical Center.

Registration for the Newport 10K costs $30. Admission will increase to $33 after April 5.

If you’re feeling invincible, you can register for the Newport Double, which includes admission to the Newport 10K on May 5th and admission to the Newport Half Marathon, which will be held on Sunday, September 16. The Newport Double costs $77.
