Journal Squared tower 2 in Jersey City

It’s been a little over two years since leasing kicked off at Journal Squared — the first of three luxury towers planned for Journal Square. Now phase two of the Journal Squared project is in full swing and the second tower is already standing over 25 stories tall.

The 71-story tower will be the tallest building in the entire Journal Squared complex. It will stand 759 feet and bring 700 new rental units to the area. (Here’s hoping those PATH improvements don’t hit any delays). Tower two will also bring 18,000 square feet of retail space to the area.

By comparison, the current Journal Squared tower stands just 53 stories tall and the third tower will top off at 63 stories.

Kushner Real Estate is the developer behind all three Journal Squared towers. Meanwhile,  HWKN/Hollwich Kushner and Handel Architects are the designers. Completion of the second skyscraper is set for sometime in 2020.

The entire Journal Square are is rapidly changing. In addition to new food spots like Jollibee, Cafe Peanut, and Grubbs Take Away, renovations are also ongoing at 2 Journal Square.

The entire Journal Squared project will wrap up sometime in 2024. In total, the three towers will bring about 1,800 new apartments to the Journal Square neighborhood.

  1. What’s to cheer about.

These building are negative designs adding nothing to the skyline but will be adding over 1900 more people attempting to get on the presently overcrowded PATH.

Without a city master plan that incorporate a much needed transportation component, these building add nothing to the city density.
