Jersey City ranks 53rd in nationwide parks survey
A non-profit that surveys the nation’s best cities for its park systems has ranked Jersey City number 53 out of 100 cities. Each year, the Trust for Public Land releases its annual ParkScore rankings, which look at four factors when ranking cities: how many residents live within a 10-minute walk of a park, how big the parks are, how much each city invests in its parks, and what kind of amenities the parks offer. Jersey City fell 13 spots to 53, whereas Newark rose 8 spots to 73 and neighboring New York dropped two spots to come in at number 9. —WBGO

Jersey City could pay $180 million for 100-acre Bayfront site
Mayor Steven Fulop has proposed a number of plans for the 100-acre Bayfront site, located along the Hackensack River north of Society Hill. The original plan called for Honeywell — which owns the site along with the city — to sell the site to a developer, which would then build 8,000 residential units, offices, parks, and more. Five percent of the units would be set aside for affordable housing. In an effort to increase the affordable housing units, Mayor Fulop has proposed for Jersey City to buy the 100-acre site for $180 million and then divvy it up among multiple developers, which would then have to set aside 10 percent or more for affordable housing. —NJ.com
