Fresh, juicy burgers at an affordable price. That’s the motto at Diesel & Duke, a new burger shop that recently opened at 389 Monmouth Street (corner of Second Street).
The menu at Diesel & Duke is short and sweet — there are six burgers to choose from with all options priced at or under $7.99. If you want two beef patties, that’ll cost an extra $3.
If you’ve never eaten at Diesel & Duke (this was our first time), the Standard is an excellent starting point. It includes a beef pattie topped with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, aioli, and ketchup. We opted for a Double Standard.
Each pattie is seared well on both sides with a nice char on the exterior and a tender, juicy interior. Our burger was cooked a little over medium (which we liked), but if you prefer a juicy, red center you’ll want to let them know beforehand.
Other burgers on the menu include the Holypeño (pictured below) with bacon, aged cheddar, jalapeño, caramelized onions, and spicy mayo as well as a vegetarian burger and a breakfast burger, which we’ve yet to try.
What about the fries?
You can’t have a proper burger without a side of fries, and Diesel & Duke doesn’t disappoint in the fries department with five options that range from $2.99 for hand-cut fries to $5.99 for a large order of Poutine.
We went with the Ranger Fries, which are topped with BBQ sauce, cheese sauce, and generous amounts of crispy bacon bits. We loved that our fries maintained their crispiness and didn’t get soggy in the sauces. Likewise, the Cajun Fries are perfectly seasoned and crisp all around.
Final Take: Diesel & Duke has shot to the top of our burger list with its menu of delicious, wallet-friendly burgers and fries. The BYOB dine-in option is just icing on the cake.
