From a free screening of The Goonies to the start of French Week, here’s the best of what’s happening in Jersey City this week.

French Week in Jersey City (Monday – Friday)

From French food to French wine, the French American Academy is celebrating all things French during the lead up to Bastille Day (Saturday). On Monday there will be a French Flag raising at City Hall (4pm), on Tuesday French musician Tiphanie Doucet will play at Atlas (5pm), on Wednesday Vogue Cafe will offer free tastings (10am to 2pm), and on Thursday there will be live gypsy jazz music at Madame Claude Bis. Plus, Choc-o-Pain (Jersey Avenue) will offer free tastings all week long from 10am to 12pm.

SummerFest at Liberty State Park (Tuesday)

SummerFest takes place every Sunday and Tuesday evening at LSP during the months of July and August. Tonight’s free show is headlined by Wilma Ann & The Jazz Disciples (jazz/soul).

The Goonies at Riverview Park (Tuesday)

Enjoy a free outdoor screening of 80s classic film, The Goonies, at Riverview Park. The movie will begin at sunset (8:30pm).

Cow Appreciation Day at Chick-fil-A (Tuesday)

Show up at any Chick-fil-A wearing “something cow-like” (a spotted accessory, black and white spots on a t-shirt, etc.) and you’ll get a free entree at any Chick-fil-A (including the store at Newport Centre).

Summer Dance Concert Series at Exchange Place (Wednesday)

The Summer Dance Concert Series brings live dance performances to the Jersey City waterfront. All of the events are free and held on Wednesdays at the J. Owen Grundy Pier from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. The series kicks off today with Dance for the Ages: Heather Warfel & Guests.

Music at the Fountain with Manouche Bag (Wednesday)

Music at the Fountain (a free concert series at Lincoln Park) returns this week with a performance by Manouche Bag. The Jersey City-based French band plays the music of Django Reinhardt, Serge Gainsbourg, and Jo Privat as well as their own unique songs. The family-friendly event runs from 7pm to 9pm.

Lights for Liberty at the Pedestrian Plaza (Friday)

Lights for Liberty is a coalition of people protesting the inhumane conditions faced by migrants. The worldwide movement will hold a peaceful gathering here in Jersey City at the Pedestrian Mall from 7pm to 9pm.
