From a casual class on natural wines to a few spots to celebrate Oktoberfest — here’s the best of what’s happening in Jersey City this week.

Darke Pines butcher class (Tuesday)
For aspiring home cooks, local butcher shop Darke Pines is hosting two hands-on butcher classes this month where you’ll learn to break down, spatchcock, and de-bone a whole chicken from the shop’s head butcher. Admission is $65 for Tuesday (10/9) or Friday (10/19) at 7:30pm. Cost includes your own bird, an assortment of produce, and refreshments during class.

Pasta e Vino launches fall menu (Tuesday)
The weather may feel like summer, but tonight Pasta e Vino debuts its new fall menu complete with dishes like this roasted squash soup.

Halloween cocktail class at Liberty House (Wednesday)
Forget candy. This Halloween learn to make the perfect Halloween drink at Liberty House’s Ghoulish Cocktail Class. Reservations are required and admission includes passes appetizers.

Schmooza Palooza at Harborside (Wednesday)
Schmooza Palooza is an indoor festival that puts the spotlight on local businesses. Vendors at the event include Om Sweet Home, Third & Vine, Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream, and more. Tickets are $20 in advance or $30 at the door.

Pop-up salsa/waltz class with Jersey City Ballroom (Thursday)
Put on your dancing shoes and dance that gloomy weather away. The Jersey City Ballroom is hosting a pop-up salsa and waltz class tonight in the yoga room at 333 Grand. The class is open to anyone (residents and non-residents) and admission is $10/pp.

Natural wine class/tasting at PS Wine Bar (Thursday)
Want to know the difference between natural, biodynamic, and organic wines?  Good, because all that and more will be covered at PS Wine Bar’s What is Natural Wine class. The casual class will taste 7 natural wines along with bread and snacks. Admission is $50/pp.

Final PierFest concert at Exchange Place (Friday)
Tonight is the last PierFest concert at the J. Owen Grundy Pier at Exchange Place. Closing out the series — which is hosted by the Exchange Place Alliance and River Sare Molly Tigre (NYC band playing Afro-jazz) and Slavic Soul Party (brass band specializing in Balkan soul/Gypsy funk).

Tasting Room birthday celebration at Departed Soles (Friday)
To celebrate the tasting room’s 3-year anniversary, Departed Soles is releasing a new beer called Laugh Now, Cry Later-Hopped. (A new blueberry lager will also release earlier in the week on Wednesday).

Oktoberfest Specials

Halifax Hoboken

In neighboring Hoboken, Halifax is offering a bratwurst sandwich (pictured) with fries and an Oktoberfest beer for $15.

Through October 14, Zeppelin Hall Biergarten is celebrating Oktoberfest with a special Bavarian menu that includes everything from giant pretzels to Bavarian Jägerschnitzel (pan-seared pork cutlet topped with a Burgundy wine). The Oktoberfest menu is available Wednesdays through Sundays.
