Van Hook Outpost now in soft open mode (Monday)
Van Hook Cheese is soft opening its new sandwich shop — Van Hook Outpost — this week. The walk-up counter will offer a variety of grilled cheese sandwiches, prepared sandwiches, chips, and a small selection of cheeses from their flagship Jersey Avenue shop. Van Hook Outpost is BYOB, but seating is limited and outdoor only.

Natural Wine Week in NYC/NJ (Monday-Sunday)
Today marks the start of the first ever Natty Wine Week — 7 days of natural wine tastings and specials across New York and New Jersey. Here in Jersey City, Frankie’s will offer 2-for-1 specials and tastings all week.

Documentary screening at Low Fidelity (Tuesday)
Down some cocktails and learn all about Liberty State Park at Lo-Fi’s free screening of “The Wildlife of Liberty State Park,” a film by John Dunstan.

Gringo’s Cactus Cantina (Wednesday)
Treat yourself to some tacos while enjoying a DIY Cactus Cantina Workshop at Gringo’s. Admission is $25/pp and your ticket includes everything you need for the class, a complimentary drink, and margarita glass.

Hudson River International Film Fest begins (Thursday)
The Hudson River International Film Fest is the area’s first Latin American Film Festival showcasing Latino filmmakers from around the globe. Movie/documentary screenings are free and will be held throughout New York and Jersey City. (Your best bet is to look for locations via their Facebook page).

Jersey City Art & Studio Tour (Thursday)
Tonight is the start of the 28th annual Jersey City Art & Studio Tour (JCAST) — a 4-night art festival that includes over 1,000 local and regional artists showcasing their work throughout all of Jersey City. Best of all — the events are all free. Check out the JCast Map online to find events that interest you the most.

Yelp Photo Tour of Jersey City (Thursday)
As part of this week’s JCAST, Yelp is compiling a gallery of the best photos uploaded to Yelp by its users. The gallery will be displayed Thursday through Sunday on the floor outside the Path Journal Square Plaza (near the Journal Square Fountain). In addition, multiple JSQ restaurants will offer Yelp check-in discounts. Restaurants include Golconda Chimney, Korai Kitchen, Max’s, McGinley Square Pub, Noodlefan, Square 1, PJ Ryan’s Squared, and Whealth.

Single Mingle at the Royal (Thursday)
The Royal is hosting its first Gay Men’s Single Mingle. The “speed dating” sessions last 5 minutes per “date” and matches are made/sent via text messages. Admission is $35/pp.

Oktoberfest at Satis (Thursday)
Satis is celebrating Oktoberfest with a 4-course beer and food tasting. Beers include Bells Octoberfest, Von Trapp Oktoberfest, Organic Wiesen Edel-Weisse, and Two Roads Roadsmary’s Baby. Admission is $45/pp.

City Nights Block Party (Friday)
Start your weekend at the 3rd annual City Nights Block Party at 148 First Street. The outdoor event will include live music, local food vendors/trucks, games, and a painting exhibit. The party runs from 7pm to 10pm.

Free concert at the Pier (Friday)
The Exchange Place Alliance and Riverview Jazz are teaming up for a series of free Friday night concerts at the J. Owen Grundy Pier at Exchange Place. Expect food trucks, beer, and plenty of music to kick off the weekend. Tonight’s lineup includes reggae from Alex Tea and Cuban son from Chino Pons.
