Ani ExpressAni Ramen is back! The über popular ramen house is reopening its Newark Avenue location today. However, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the restaurant is reopening as Ani Express.

That means they’ll only offer pickup, delivery, and outdoor dining. This is the first time that the Newark Avenue location will allow pickup and delivery. The process is pretty simple: You order from their website and pickup from a counter/window at the restaurant. If you’re ordering ramen, you’ll get an Ani Express to-go package that includes the ramen and broth in separate containers. (We tried it and it tastes just as delicious). However, keep in mind that only 100 bowls and 50 buns will be available on opening day.

In addition to ramen, Ani Express will also offer appetizers, bao buns, and cocktails/sake. (The Ani Express at Harborside doesn’t offer liquor).

Like all restaurants, Ani Ramen closed all of its locations at the start of the pandemic. However, the Jersey City restaurant reopened on April 24 as non-profit initiative Be Awesome Feed Somebody. The latter consisted of two conceptual kitchens called Rock City Pizza and Bang Bang Chicken. Both kitchens allowed diners to donate discounted food to first responders and made numerous food contributions throughout the pandemic. One of their last donations was to the West Side Community Fridge.

There’s no word on when NJ indoor dining will commence, but for the next few months you can enjoy Ani Express al fresco or from your home.
