The Grove Street station is about to get a lot cozier. A new 57-floor tower is coming to Christopher Columbus Drive. Excavation is currently ongoing at 25 Columbus, a luxury rental located next to the Paulus Hook Towers.

Designed by Handel Architects and developed by Mack-Cali, the massive project will bring a total of 750 rental units to the area, according to NY YIMBY.

The former parking lot will also include a public plaza and four retail storefronts. In addition, there will be a 35,000-square-foot privately-funded public school. The school will cater to students in pre-K through first grade.

25 Columbus will include a 471-space parking garage and more than 16,000 square feet of retail space. Residents at 25 Columbus will enjoy a variety of amenities including an outdoor pool, dog run, state-of-the-art gym, an amenity terrace with private cabanas, and more. (Not to mention they’ll have easy access to Whole Foods Jersey City). The apartments will be market rate and the project will include 37 affordable housing units.

Cranes, excavators, and pile drivers are currently operating at the site with plans to wrap up in 2020.

The rental tower will be located near The Lively, another new rental project at 321 Warren Street. The Lively will house a 150-seat black box theater and will become the new home to Nimbus Dance.

  1. what makes you even say “cozier”? Just another building ringing around what was beautiful downtown jersey city.
Below Grove is a mess of high rise luxury towers that have no relationship to what was actually downtown Jersey City.
Just another mass of people trying to get on the PATH
Many of whom don’t register to vote
People who are here for a year or two and move on

This new building is not to be celebrated.

  2. I would love the opportunity to rent a apartment at this location for a 3-bedroom that would take Section 8 low income income housing

    • Hilton, they do.. they are taking 5% of section 8 applicants and it is $75 to be put on the lottery for it. If you are who I think you are, you should go for it.

  3. I would like to hear if the city granted the developer a tax abatement for the project? I would like to think that we have got to the point, that there is now, no longer a need to be incentivizing developments in the downtown area. Especially on ones which are reserving less than 5% of units to affordable housing.
