Yaso Tangbao Jersey City is finally open. After months of waiting, the new eatery is open at 30 Hudson (Goldman Sachs building). They’re located around the corner from Bluestone Lane Jersey City.
The fast-casual eatery, which specializes in Shanghainese street food, has won praise by multiple outlets including New York Mag and the New York Times. According to the NYT, Yaso Tangbao’s chef — Zongxing Tu — mastered the art of soup dumplings at the first Joe’s Shanghai in Flushing, Queens. He’s the “yaso” (uncle in Shanghainese dialect) to partners, Chi Zhang, Kevin Gu, and Chongwu Du. All four grew up in Shanghai, so you can be pretty sure you’ll be getting authentic dishes.
Their menu ranges from pan fried baos to braised beef noodle soup. However, it’s Yaso Tangbao’s soup dumplings which have often been referred to as the “best in New York” by various outlets. “It is hard to stop talking about those dumplings,” writes the NYT. “Their skins may not be the thinnest in town, but the touch of doughiness is just enough to protect the broth and cut the richness of the pork.”
You can follow Yaso Tangbao on Instagram for the latest updates on the Jersey City restaurant.
The sign has been taken down. Any update or reason for this?
I noticed that too. Last week they were working on the facade of the building. My guess is that’s why the logo/sign was removed.
I have high hopes for both Yaso and Bobwhite. They could be great dining additions to Paulus Hook which is lacking in fast-casual options.
Hi are these Kosher?
