The Port Authority is giving commuters an early Christmas gift. The organization has announced that the WTC PATH station will remain open seven days a week through the end of December. The station has been closed most weekends since January 2019 as the PA repairs tunnel damage caused by 2012’s hurricane Sandy.
If you prefer the ferry over the PATH train, NY Waterway ferries will continue to run on a 20-minute schedule from Harborside to Brookfield Place/Battery Park. The first ferry will depart Harborside at 9:50am, whereas the last ferry will leave Brookfield at 10:50pm.
Unfortunately, WTC PATH closures will resume on Saturday, January 4, 2020. They will remain in tact all year through December 2020, excluding major holidays.
The PA also announced that in October PATH trains handled an average of 296,976 weekday passengers, which ties a record set in 2018. During the month of October, there were nine weekdays where PATH ridership exceeded 300,000 passengers. Ridership peaked at 308,725 passengers on October 24. From January through October, PATH handled a record average weekday ridership of 286,520 passengers. That’s up 1.5% over the same period in 2018.
Last month, PATH fare increases kicked in with price hikes on nearly all SmartLink options. Fares will increase again next year around this time frame.
