At a time when even your local fast-food chain claims to be farm-to-table, Whealth is taking the concept to a whole new level.
Founded in 2014, Whealth is a full service events and hospitality company with a cafe inside the Harborside Terminal and a new cafe/restaurant at the base of the Journal Squared tower.
The cafe at Journal Squared officially opens on Monday, September 18. From 6:30am through 10:30am (7 days a week) the Journal Squared cafe will offer breakfast items like coffee, tea, chia puddings, granola, egg sandwiches, bagels, and oatmeal. From 11am to 3pm the menu will switch to lunch items like soups, veggie bowls, salads, sandwiches, and more.
Here’s where owner and chef David Trotta is switching things up. On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings, the Journal Squared Cafe will offer 3-course prix fixe dinners (BYOB) at $45 per person.
Jersey City Upfront was invited to Whealth’s opening dinner last week where we tried everything from a delicious (and vegetarian friendly) charred eggplant in green chili to a creamy polenta with roasted corn and parm. Ingredients for every dish were picked up the night before from Blooming Hill Farm.
The seasonal and fresh ingredients combined with Trotta’s creativity and imagination in the kitchen made for an impeccable dinner — all shared family style — at the cafe’s cozy communal table. (There are separate tables and bar stools if you prefer a single or traditional setting).
The Journal Squared Cafe will offer another dinner this Friday with seatings at 6pm and 8pm. (You can check out the menu here). It’s an excellent addition to a neighborhood filled with foodies and fitness addicts who want a casual, chill place to dine.
