Since the launch of the Jersey City Mural Arts Program, Jersey City has amassed an impressive collection of murals.

The program — which started in 2013 — connects veteran and emerging artists with property owners looking to transform the streets of the city into an outdoor art gallery. It’s led to the creation of murals like The Jersey City Wave on Grove Street and the David Bowie mural at Cast Iron Lofts.

While the colorful murals have helped rejuvenate the city’s arts scene, tracking all of the murals hasn’t been so easy. Now the city is making it easy to keep tabs of all Jersey City murals with its new website. The Jersey City Mural Arts Program (JCMAP) is a site that maps out the city’s 100+ murals.

“This new website will not only allow people from all over the world to enjoy the murals, but it will also enable interested onlookers to look up information about a painting and even encourage more people to seek out the miles of available free public art,” said Mayor Steven Fulop in statement.

The website lists the artist’s bio along with what inspired him/her to create said mural in Jersey City. For the El Gran Sueño mural (next to the Key Foods on Jersey Avenue), the site says artist Asbel G. Dumpierre wanted to create a mural that “represents the freedom people try reach by coming to this amazing country.” It also lists Dumpierre’s Instagram account and the year that the mural was completed.

The mural program has drawn both local and international artists, such as Shepard Fairey. Eduardo Kobra, Gaia, and Emilio Florentine.

JCMAP also lists murals that are in the works for the city. According to the site, there are five Jersey City murals in the works for this summer.
