A reader sent us a tip on Jersey City’s new Hyatt House Hotel. The new hotel — located at One Exchange Place — formerly housed the First National Bank of Jersey City (the first bank ever built in New Jersey).
The ambitious project to renovate and reuse the 92-year old building first broke ground in August of 2014 and little has been know about the project since then. However, new information indicates that the hotel could be prepping for an opening soon.
According to a recent release, Hyatt and Concord Hospitality claim that they will “soon welcome guests” to their new 258-room property, which in addition to the hotel, will feature 10,000 square feet of street-level retail space, an outdoor lounge, and an upper-level lobby.
The rooftop lounge will feature a retractable glass enclosure — designed by roof experts OpenAire — that can remain open in fair weather and can be easily closed during the colder months.
Keep in mind, this project was expected to open in late 2015 and the image below shows there’s still work to be done on the rooftop lounge. Also, the hotel’s website calls for a 2017 opening (which actually isn’t that far off).
We’ve reached out to Hyatt and Concord and will update if we receive further info. There’s also a promo video below, which was made back in 2014. —Hyatt House Jersey City (thanks J!)
