Gyms across the nation have been hit hard by the pandemic. Although they’re a part of New Jersey’s phase 2 reopening plan, there are still no precise guidelines by the state on how they should proceed with reopening. As a result of the lockdown, some gyms are starting to close.
Jersey City’s Black House Strength and Conditioning, for example, has permanently closed. An announcement about the closing was made on the studio’s Instagram and a leasing sign is already hanging from the studio’s window.
Located at 334 Second Street, the training facility first opened in February of 2017 offering a variety of high-intensity workouts. However, like all gyms in the state they were forced to close when the pandemic started. They currently have a location in Fairfield, NJ, that’s offering outdoor workouts.

Meanwhile, 24 Hour Fitness has announced it’s filing for bankruptcy and closing seven of its New Jersey gyms. The closings will include the 24 Hour Fitness at 918 Bergen Avenue in Jersey City.
“If it were not for COVID-19 and its devastating effects, we would not be filing for Chapter 11,” said Chief Executive Officer Tony Ueber. During this time, all 24 Hour Fitness club members will have access to any available club through the end of 2020, regardless of their membership level.
