“Try This Now” puts the spotlight on a beverage, cocktail, appetizer, dessert, or meal I’ve recently had in Jersey City that has surpassed all my expectations.
Churrasquiera Europa has the best paella in town. Period. There’s nothing trendy or fancy about this restaurant, which is located just outside the downtown Jersey City border. Decor-wise, the restaurant has a certain old-school charm like it’s stuck in Jersey City circa 1985. However, the star of the show is the food. Here you’ll get very generous portions of food. The paella marinera shown above comes loaded with mussels, clams, lobster, shrimp, and squid. Every now and then you get more shrimp than you do clams or you get more mussels than you do lobster, but the food is consistently good. The seafood always tastes fresh and the rice is perfectly moist. At $32, the paella tray is a tremendous value and more than enough to feed four hungry adults. I’d also recommend the mariscada in red sauce, which features the same ingredients, but in a tomato-based sauce (with yellow rice on the side).
