One of Jersey City’s most popular small businesses is coming to Bergen-Lafayette. Ice cream shop Torico’s has announced its plans to expand to 1041 Garfield Avenue, a stone’s throw away from Berry Lane Park and Samurai Sushi.
Torico’s has been a Jersey City staple since opening in 1968. Located at 20 Erie Street, the family run ice cream parlor offers a wide range of ice cream flavors, soft serve, ice cream cakes, and ice cream pies. The name of the shop is a contraction of the Spanish phrase “todo rico,” which translates to it’s all good.
The business was started by Pete and Pura Berrios and originally sold piraguas — a Puerto Rican shaved ice dessert — before focusing on ice cream. The Bergen-Lafayette outpost will be the second Torico’s location in Jersey City.
No opening date has been given, but you can keep an eye on Torico’s Instagram for news on the upcoming launch.
