The first weekend of June kicks off with a bang thanks to a classic sci-fi movie screening at the Loew’s Theatre and the start of the Riverview Jazz Fest on Friday. Plus, enjoy K9dergarten’s 5-year anniversary party, 8 Springs Studio’s grand opening, and Bike JC’s 2016 Ward Tour.
What: Sci-Fi Weekend at The Landmark Loew’s Theatre
When: Friday & Saturday June 3rd & 4th at 8pm, 6pm, and 8.20pm
Where: Loew’s Theatre at 54 Journal Square Plaza
Two days, four films — that’s the motto behind this weekend’s sci-fi fest at The Loew’s Theatre. The theatre will have showings of Dark City, A Trip to the Moon, The Day the Earth Stood Still, and Aliens. Tickets are $8 for adults or $6 for seniors/children.

What: 4th Annual Riverview Jazz Festival
When: Friday, June 3 – Saturday, June 11
Where: Multiple areas
The Riverview Jazz festival is a week-long, multi-cultural festival of jazz music that takes place throughout various venues in Jersey City. The event kicks off this Friday with a Jam Session with the RJO All-Stars at 125 First Street. You can check out the week-long series of events here.

Where: Taphaus at 2 Second Street (Crystal Point Condos)
Taphaus will air all of the U.S. Copa America football games starting with Friday night’s U.S. vs. Colombia opener.

What: Go Jersey City
When: Saturday, June 4 from 10am – 1pm
Where: Van Vorst Park
Go Jersey City is a day of community service where residents of Jersey City go out and serve 10 to 15 organizations and parks throughout the city. (Including Liberty Humane, HDSID, Liberty State Park, New City Kids, etc.) Volunteers will gather at Van Vorst Park and register for the projects available. The day concludes with an after party with food provided.

Celebrate the 31st Hamilton Park Festival. The family-friendly event will include a petting zoo for children, fitness demos/clinics, arts & crafts, food, and more.

What: K9dergarten 5-Year Anniversary Party
When: Saturday, June 4 from 12pm – 7pm
Where: K9dergarten at 173 Newark Avenue
Downtown’s premiere doggie day care center is celebrating its 5-year anniversary and you’re invited to the party. There will be free food, drinks, wine tasting, book signing, and prizes.

What: 8 Springs Studio Grand Opening
When: Saturday, June 4 at 1pm
Where: 300 Coles Street
Celebrate the grand opening of 8 Springs Studio, Jersey City’s first megaformer gym. Festivities kick off at 1pm with DJ Roderrock and complimentary brunch courtesy of Total Nutrition Kitchen, followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony. There will also be raffles (two 5-class passes), prizes from local vendors, and Megaformer challenges.

What: 2016 Jersey City Ward Tour
When: Sunday, June 5 at 9am
Where: City Hall at 280 Grove Street
The Jersey City Ward Tour is a 17-mile cycling event (non-competitive) that crosses through all six of Jersey City’s wards. This year the event will start in front of City Hall and end at Liberty State Park. Sign-in and bib pick-up begins at 9am and the tour itself will begin at 11am. Registration is free with a $5 suggested donation.
