Memorial Day weekend is here and there are a variety of local events for you to enjoy. From a kite show at Liberty State Park to a 1920s-style jazz party at LITM, we present our top picks for what to see, eat, and do in and around Jersey City this weekend.
What: The Grind Shop: Grinding After Dark
When: Friday, May 26 from 7pm – 10pm
Where: The Grind Shop at 360 Communipaw Avenue
The Grinding After Dark series is back at the Grind Coffee Shop. The free artist showcase returns with live music and an artist showcase. BYOB glasses will be provided should if you want to bring a bottle of wine and chill.

What: Liberty Humane Society Free Rabies Clinic
When: Saturday, May 27 at 10am – 2pm
Where: LHS at 235 Jersey City Blvd
The Liberty Humane Society is hosting a free rabies clinic for licensed dogs and cats in Jersey City. Not licensed? You can license at the event and get your free rabies shot to boot. Distemper shots will also be available for $20.

What: Whealth 5K Harborside Run/Walk
When: Saturday, May 27 at 10am
Where: Whealth Cafe at Harborside
Start the weekend with a gorgeous 5K run (or walk) along the Jersey City waterfront, led by avid runners David Trotta of Whealth and trainer/model Jesse Barton. The casual run is open to all fitness levels and is followed by a quick cool down/meditation session and a healthy meal at the Whealth Harborside Cafe.

What: Sky Art Kite Festival
When: Saturday, May 27 & Sunday, May 28 from 12pm – 4pm
Where: Liberty State Park
Traveling kite show, The Wind Wolves, will be at Liberty State Park this weekend for a 2-day kite show/festival. The free event is designed to introduce professional kite flying to the general public. There will be kite sales, kite competitions, a graffiti kite challenge, and more.

What: The Garden Party: A 1920s Jazz Shindig
When: Saturday, May 27 at 6pm – 1:45am
Where: LITM at 140 Newark Avenue
Prohibition era cocktails are coming to LITM during the bar’s 1920s Jazz Shindig party. The night will include live music along with drink and food specials. 1920s costumes are encouraged, but not required.

What: Liberty State Park Sunset Photography Tour
When: Sunday, May 28 at 4:30pm – 10pm
Where: Zuccotti Park in Lower Manhattan
This photography tour hosted by New York City Wild starts in lower Manhattan and winds up in downtown Jersey City with stops along the waterfront (Exchange Place) and Liberty State Park. Tickets start at $10.

What: 2nd Annual Fleet Week
When: Sunday, May 28 from 12pm – 5pm
Where: Liberty State Park at 1 Audrey Zapp Drive
Join the brave men and women of the U.S. Marines, Coast Guard, and Navy for the 2nd Annual Fleet Week at Liberty State Park. The family-friendly event will include live music, a parachute show, and more.
