Downtown will be brimming with events this weekend from the 2nd Annual Village Block Party to the 21st Annual West Indian and Caribbean Festival. Plus, check out Friday night’s quiet clubbing event at Transmission, support rescue cats and pups at the Liberty Humane Society’s Clear the Shelters event, and top the weekend off with Sunday brunch courtesy of Whealth.
What: Edible Jersey’s 5th Annual Eat Drink Local Week
When: Friday, July 22 through Sunday, July 31
Where: Bucket & Bay, Dark Side of the Moo, Razza Pizza
Edible Jersey is celebrating the local foods of the Garden State during its 5th Annual Eat Drink Local Week. Over 50 participating restaurants across New Jersey will serve prix fixe and supplemental menus in addition to their traditional fare through the end of the month. Participating restaurants in Jersey City include Bucket & Bay Craft Gelato, Dark Side of the Moo, and Razza Pizza.

What: Shut Up and Listen II
When: Friday, July 22 from 9.30pm – 2am
Where: Transmission at 150 Bay Street
If you couldn’t make it to the last quiet clubbing event at Transmission, here’s your chance to see what you missed. Shut Up and Listen II will feature three DJs spinning different genres of music — hip-hop, top dance hits, and 80s-2k throwbacks. Upon arriving at the event, you’re given a pair of wireless headphones and you can choose which music feed you want to listen to. Tickets are $20 online or $30 at the door. What: Liberty Humane Society “Clear the Shelters” Free Adoptions
When: Saturday, July 23 from 11am – 4pm
Where: 235 Jersey City Boulevard
The LHS, NBC, and Telemundo have teamed up for “Clear the Shelters” — a national adoption event that puts the spotlight on rescues. From 11am through 4pm, adoption fees will be waived on cats over 4 months and dogs over 40 pounds at LHS.

The Green Villain Exchange is an all-day art show and music festival where creatives from the GVX record label and gallery come together to party. The event will have food (incrediBalls, The Taco Truck), live music, art, and more.

Where: Mary Benson Park at 369 Third Street
The 2nd Annual Village Block Party kicks off this weekend at its new locations near Mary Benson Park. The party will include games, a kickball tournament, live music, art, and a free kids area with face painting from The Brunswick School and food classes from Bambino Chef, among other activities. Food vendors will include Third & Vine, Cellar 335, Madame Claude Bis, El Chilango, and more.

What: 21st Annual West Indian and Caribbean American Parade and Festival

Where: J. Owen Grundy Pier at Exchange Place
The West Indian and Caribbean Carnival Parade and Festival is back for its 21st year at the J. Owen Grundy Pier in Exchange Place. The festival features an array of Caribbean music, food, and drink. The parade portion starts at 12pm at Lincoln Park (Kennedy Blvd & Belmont Ave) and travels to City Hall. The festival kicks off at Exchange Place at 3pm.

Where: The PopUp Project at 1 Edward Hart Road
The Forever Young Festival is a celebration of arts and culture showcasing local artists, musicians, and vendors. Vendors include Villainous New York, Taproot Organics, and The Hair Room JC. Food vendors include House of Gains, Left Bank Burger Bar, and Milk Sugar Love, among others.
