The Cottage is a new bakery and artisanal market located in McGinley Square along Monticello Avenue. The market offers a variety of treats ranging from homemade croissants to Doughnut Plant donuts.
Opening any business during the pandemic is not for the faint of heart, but owner Heather Grabin says she knew this was the right place the minute she met local businesses and neighbors.
- Coffee speakeasy: BattleCat Espresso Bar
- Now open: Irma’s Cafe
“The street is so historic and has such character and the neighborhood is so diverse which is exactly what we represent,” says Grabin. That diversity is well represented in the menu that Grabin is currently offering. Dishes range from huevos rancheros to a homemade Palestinian shakshuka, which consists of eggs baked in a tomato-red pepper sauce spiced with cumin, paprika, and cayenne.
In addition to homemade treats, The Cottage Jersey City also features popular and local treats from the likes of Doughnut Plant (Fridays through Sundays only), Balthazar, and The Cookie Cake Company.
The Cottage Jersey City also doubles as a catering company and events space complete with its own patio seating. Grabin is constantly adding new pastries and sandwiches to the menu, all of which are made in-house.The market is located at 136 Monticello Avenue and you can follow them on Instagram for the latest updates.
As of March 1, 2021, The Cottage Jersey City is open 7 days a week.
