South House, the Texas-inspired restaurant located in the heart of the Jersey City Pedestrian Plaza, is closing permanently. Founder and CEO David Hohensee recently broke the news via social media.
“It is with a heavy heart that I make this announcement,” writes Hohensee. “Myself, and my founding right-hand team of rock star sisters, have decided to step away from the daily grind and close SOUTH HOUSE.”
Located at 149 Newark Avenue, South House first opened its doors in July of 2015. The restaurant offered a mix of Texas-inspired cuisine that included everything from brisket mac n’ cheese to a fried chicken sandwich. The restaurant was equally renown for its gorgeous decor, which was the work of Hohensee’s sister, Stephanie Villarreal-Farid. Vintage rock-and-roll photos, an exposed brick wall, and a cozy courtyard all added to the restaurant’s southern-inspired charm.
Although the future of the multi-floor restaurant is uncertain, Hohensee says the doors will be closed “until a new management team is selected to carry the torch.”
South House’s closure comes just weeks after the closing of La Cote in Paulus Hook.
