One of New York’s most iconic burger shops just made its downtown Jersey City debut. The Shake Shack at 318 Grove Street officially opened on Thursday, April 27. This is the second Shake Shack in Jersey City after another outpost opened in Newport Centre Mall late last year.
Last June, the Historic Downtown Special Improvement District (HDSID) confirmed via an Instagram post that Shake Shack would be taking over the space formerly occupied by Subway on the corner of Grove and Columbus.
Shack Shake originally started as a hot dog cart inside New York’s Madison Square Park in 2001. In 2004, it evolved into a kiosk with hamburgers, hotdogs, fries, and milkshakes. Since then, the fast-casual chain has expanded with outposts throughout the country. This is Shake Shack’s second Jersey City location. The Shake Shack food truck has also operated in Jersey City multiple times in the past.
In terms of food, Shake Shack is known for its signature ShackBurger, but you can also get a variety of chicken sandwiches, grilled cheese, fries, and hot dogs. Non-meat eaters can even order Shake Shack’s ‘shroom burger.
