Prepare for Major Weekend PATH Closures

4

Here we go again.

The Port Authority is warning commuters to prepare for 17-weekend tunnel and station closures.

There will be one closure the weekend of May 19 and then a streak of closures from July 7 through the end of October.

How bad is it gonna get?  Here’s the lowdown:

  • Exchange Place and WTC PATH stations will be closed on the weekends of May 19/May 20 and again on July 7/July 8.
  • All New York PATH stations on the 33rd/Hoboken line will be closed starting the weekend of July 14 through October 28.
  • The Hoboken PATH station will be open during the above closures with the exception of three Sundays when the Hoboken station will close: September 15, September 22, and October 13.
  • All closures will run on weekends from 11:59pm on Friday through 5am the following Monday. Closures will not be in effect Labor Day weekend.
  • The PA will not provide shuttle buses as they did in 2016. Instead, they will offer free 2-trip MetroCards for travelers affected by the closures. Customers will be able to pick up the 2-trip cards at designated PATH stations. The special MetroCards can only be used during the weekend issued.

According to the PA, the closures are to complete federally mandated Positive Train Control (PTC) equipment and software installation. Good luck, everyone.

  1. Before creating totally panic – please learn how to copy and paste information. From July 14-Oct 28, “All New York PATH stations from Hoboken to 33rd Street will be closed starting the weekend of July 14 and running through October 28, impacting train schedules and service.”

This only affects the 33rd street line, you will still be able to get into WTC.

    • There will be no service on that line on wkds. 33rd street through Christopher street will be closed. So your only way to get to NYC on those weekends will be via the WTC line. From there, PATH will hand out 2-trip MetroCards so you can get to your destination in NYC.
