From bite-sized paani puri shots to butter chicken tacos, Nukkad is expanding its menu with 11 savory snacks that will take your palate on a roller coaster ride of flavors.
Chaat is an entire category of Indian street foods that are meant to be eaten like tapas, says Nukkad chef and owner Garima Kothari. The dishes all look and taste different and can range from crunchy and tangy to spicy and sweet.
Nukkad’s chaat menu includes some dishes you wouldn’t typically find in an Americanized Indian restaurant, such as Pav Bhaji. These spiced mashed potatoes are served with buttered dinner rolls and diced onion. Then there’s the Aalu Tikki Chaat, which is like a potato cake topped with chutneys and crispy chickpea noodles. It’s soft, sweet, and crunchy all at the same time.
The menu also includes the first mash up between Indian and Mexican fare we’ve seen in Jersey City. Nukkad’s butter chicken tacos are an absolute must. They’re loaded with chicken tikka, makhani sauce, and served on layered paratha bread with a dollop of house-made guac. If you want a meatless taco, you can opt for the veggie paneer or chana masala tacos.
If you’re looking for something sweet, Nukkad is also offering a sizzling brownie platter topped with swirls of Ghirardelli chocolate and two scoops of vanilla ice cream. It’s a popular dessert in India that Kothari grew up eating as a child.
The Chaat menu is available from 3pm till closing with everything priced under $7. Nukkad is located at 105 Greene Street (between Montgomery and York).
