A 3,000 square foot art gallery will officially open its doors Friday evening in the Powerhouse Arts District. Located at 110 Morgan Street (at the base of the new Modera Lofts rental complex), Novado Art Gallery will showcase contemporary art, design, and ceramics created by local and international artists.
“The Novado Gallery is a welcome addition to the Jersey City community,” said Councilwoman Candice Osborne in a press release. “The opening of the gallery builds on Jersey City’s strong historic aesthetic and the legacy of the Powerhouse Arts District.”
The gallery’s first exhibition, “Identity,” features “Victorian-era inspired mixed media sculpture in context with the body and home” by Alyssa McClenaghan; oil paintings of “flower-hybrid” portraits and self-portraits by Brandy Kraft; paintings in various media including bleach and light-sensitive emulsion by Lacey McKinney; woven photographic portraits on archival vellum by David Samuel Stern; and chromogenic development prints by Carrie Will.
Novado Gallery will donate a percentage of sales from works in “Identity” to benefit WomenRising, a local organization that helps women and their families achieve self-sufficiency through social services, economic development, and advocacy services.
“Identity” will run through March 9. Future exhibitions will be posted on the gallery’s website.
