NJ COVID-19 vaccine — Residents can now pre-register online

City Hall Jersey CityThe NJ COVID 19 vaccine portal is now live. The portal lets NJ residents pre-register for the COVID vaccine. The website (https://covid19.nj.gov/pages/vaccine) is part of the state’s effort to vaccinate 70% of the population within the first six month of 2021.

The state has divvied up vaccinations into various stages. New Jersey currently finds itself in Phase 1B. According to the website, this includes sworn law enforcement, fire professionals, and other first responders. (There is currently no timeframe for when phases may begin or end).

NJ COVID-19 vaccination phases
  • Phase 1A: Paid and unpaid persons serving in health care settings who have the potential for direct or indirect exposure to patients or infectious materials as well as residents and staff of long-term congregate settings. (You can find definitions of these terms here/PDF).
  • Phase 1B: Frontline essential workers and individuals over 75.
  • Phase 1C: Other essential workers, adults 65-74, and persons aged 16-64 with medical conditions that increase the risk for severe COVID-19.
  • Phase 2: General public.

New Jersey is looking to build six mega sites that will serve as vaccination hubs for phased priority groups. The sites are:

  • Atlantic County: Atlantic City Convention Center
  • Bergen County: Racetrack at Meadowlands, East Rutherford
  • Burlington County: Moorestown Mall
  • Gloucester County: Rowan College of South Jersey, Sewell
  • Middlesex County: New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center, Edison
  • Morris County: Rockaway Townsquare
COVID-19 vaccination in Jersey City

Here in Jersey City, city officials have announced their plans to open six Jersey City COVID-19 vaccination sites. However, only four locations have been named. That said, Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop still plans to have 70% of the city vaccinated within six months.

Jersey City has reported 16,517 confirmed coronavirus cases and 599 deaths since the start of the pandemic, according to the JC COVID-19 dashboard.
