One of Jersey City’s biggest sushi restaurants is expanding. Nigiri is a new omakase restaurant by the team behind Honshu. Located at 95 Greene Street, Nigiri soft opened on September 25, but the new restaurant is celebrating its grand opening on October 10. (October also happens to be the 18-year anniversary of the opening of Honshu).
Omakase is a form of Japanese dining where guests allow the chef to choose their meal. In exchange, diners are treated to a seasonal meal using the freshest ingredients possible. Nigiri’s omakase starts at $100 for eight pieces, $120 for 10 pieces, and $150 for 12 pieces. Omakase pieces vary based on seasonality, but can range from torched New Zealand King Salmon with caviar to a rich, buttery bluefin toro.
The space is located next to Honshu with an enclosed sushi counter and an exposed table/dining area. In addition to omakase, Nigiri also offers an a la carte temaki (hand roll) menu and three set temaki menus that start at $26 for four pieces, $35 for five pieces, and $45 for six pieces.
Reservations can be made online at Nigiri’s website and you can also follow them on Instagram for updates.
